What It Does

Four Steps. Real Math. A Decision the Driver Can Actually Make.

The driver answers whether their car is paid off or still has a loan. From there, the calculator collects their vehicle details, repair quote, and loan information, then returns a clear verdict with the numbers laid out in plain language.

This is not a generic "it depends" answer. The tool accounts for vehicle age, type, mileage, condition, loan payoff balance, and monthly payment to give a verdict that is specific to that driver's situation. A driver underwater on a loan gets a very different answer than someone who owns their car free and clear.

Once the result appears, the next step is built in: a click-to-call button and a booking link sit directly below the verdict. The driver never has to leave the page to get the repair quote the calculator just told them makes financial sense.

How It Works

A Calculator That Does the Math Drivers Avoid.

Most drivers facing a big repair bill make the decision on gut feeling. This tool replaces that with actual numbers, including the math most people never think to run on their loan.

Driver Enters Their Info

1. Two Paths — Paid Off or Loan

The first question splits the tool into two paths. Paid-off drivers get a simple value vs. repair calculation. Drivers with a loan also enter their payoff balance and monthly payment, which unlocks the full picture including negative equity.

Calculator Returns the Verdict

2. Clear Verdict Plus Numbers Plus CTA

The driver sees a four-tier verdict — Fix It, Probably Worth It, Think Carefully, or Replacement May Be Smarter — with the actual numbers broken down below. Drivers who are underwater get called out directly. The path from math to phone call is one tap.

Result: A driver who arrives confused leaves with a clear answer and your shop's number in hand. The calculator does the qualifying. The phone button captures the intent.
Why Shop Owners Want This Tool

A Calculator That Earns Its Place on Your Site.

This is not a widget for the sake of a widget. Every piece of this tool was built to do two jobs: answer the question drivers search for before a big repair decision, and turn that search into a call to your shop.

Captures High-Intent Searches

"Is it worth fixing my car," "repair vs replace calculator," "should I fix my car or buy a new one." Drivers searching these phrases have already gotten a repair quote and are weighing their options. A page with this tool meets them at that exact moment.

The Loan Path Is the Difference Maker

Every other tool on the internet ignores the loan. Ours does not. When the calculator tells a driver they are $5,000 underwater, they instantly understand that walking away from this car is not free. That single insight drives more calls than anything else in the result.

Builds Trust Before the Call

The calculator gives real, personalized numbers without asking for anything in return. No email gate. No form. Just an honest answer. By the time the driver taps the phone button, your shop is already the trusted expert in their head.

Captures the Decision Moment

A driver sitting with a repair quote in hand is the highest-intent lead an auto shop can get. This tool exists at exactly that moment. The verdict, the numbers, and the phone button are all on the same screen. There is nowhere else to go.

Belongs on Your General Repair Page

The natural home for this tool is your general auto repair or estimate page. A driver Googles whether to fix their car, lands on your page, gets their answer, and calls your shop. No bounces. No comparison shopping. One decision made right there.

Common Questions

Everything Shop Owners Ask About This Tool.

How does the vehicle value estimate work?

The calculator uses a depreciation model based on vehicle age, type, mileage, and condition. It applies steeper depreciation in the first three years, when vehicles lose value fastest, and a more gradual curve after that. Mileage above or below the expected average adjusts the result further. It is a solid ballpark, not a KBB appraisal. The disclaimer makes that clear, and the mechanic can confirm the real picture when the driver calls.

What is the negative equity calculation and why does it matter?

Negative equity means the driver owes more on their loan than the car is worth. This is extremely common right now because of how quickly vehicles depreciated after the used car price spike. When a driver is underwater, the true cost of walking away from the car includes paying off that gap on top of buying a replacement. Most drivers have never done that math. When our tool shows it to them plainly, it completely changes how they view the repair decision.

What are the four verdict tiers?

Fix It (repair under 10% of vehicle value), Probably Worth It (10 to 50%), Think Carefully (50 to 80%), and Replacement May Be Smarter (over 80%). Drivers with a loan get slightly adjusted thresholds when they are underwater, since the real cost of replacement is higher than the sticker price on a new car.

Can I customize the buttons and colors to match my brand?

Yes. Button colors, text, and destinations are all configurable. The WordPress version handles this in the admin dashboard. The HTML and PHP versions are configured at install. Everything matches your brand by default.
